R-410A IS HERE TO STAY
Know the Facts that will keep you and your customers safe!
The EPA has established the phase out of the HCFC R-22 with no production or importing beginning in 2020. However, equipment manufacturers must
phase out the use of HCFC R-22 in new units by January 1, 2010.
R-410A designed systems employ thicker walled tubing, and compressors capable of withstanding the higher pressures of R-410A. R-410A systems require
different installation and service procedures.
New equipment that uses R-410A will require service personal to shift to different tools and equipment, safety standards and fundamentals when installing,
changing out (retrofitting) older split A/C systems, and repairing systems in the field.
HVAC service persons need to understand the safe handling, proper charging, operating characteristics, proper applications, and general use of R-410A
refrigerant.
How To Prepare For Certification
Preparing for the Universal R-410A Safety Certification, is easy. Either read the Universal R-410A Safety and Training Manual, or view the Universal
R-410A Safety and Training Interactive CD-ROM.
Successful test takers will receive a wall certificate, a wallet sized certification card and an embroidered shoulder patch issued by HVAC Excellence.

R410A
- Should only be used in equipment specifically designed and constructed for higher pressure refrigerants.
- Operates at considerably higher pressures and requires the use of special tanks, gauges and recovery equipment.
- Requires training of installation and service personnel in the proper and safe handling of R-410A
- Needs service personnel to understand why all refrigerant flow controls, valves and driers have changed and must be properly applied with newly
designed & built compressors.
- Many equipment manufacturers are well aware of the concerns and safety issues of working with R-410A and other HFC refrigerants and are requiring
installation and service professionals who purchase their R-410A systems to be R-410A Certified.
In order to prepare Air Conditioning Professionals for the challenges presented by R410A, some of the premier organizations of our industry have joined to
create the AC&R Safety Coalition.
- ESCO Institute
- Ferris State University
- HVAC Excellence
- Indoor Air Quality Association
- Industrial Technical Excellence
- Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES)
By uniting to create a industry wide program, the AC&R Safety Coalition R-410A Safety Training and Certification program is offered by Associations,
Manufacturers, Schools, Wholesalers and all facets of the industry including:
- Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA)
- Amana Heating and Cooling
- Bacharach Inc
- COSA
- Goodman Manufacturing
- International Comfort Products
- United Association
The AC&R Safety Coalitions R-410A Safety Training & Certification program provides the necessary training and practical knowledge to safely perform
service on systems containing R-410A as well as R-407C and other near azeotropic blends. This program also includes information on: the R-22 phase-out,
appropriate refrigerant and oil applications, service techniques, as well as safe handling of R-410-A.
Do not be denied your opportunity to work on current and future equipment because you did not opt to get certified.
